PREPARE THESE ITEMS BEFORE UTME
1. Obtain your National Identification Number (NIN):
NIN is now a mandatory requirement for UTME/DE registration. If you don’t have one yet and plan to register for the UTME/DE, it is advisable to acquire it promptly.
2. Ensure you have a Registered Phone Number for Profile Code Creation:
Before the registration begins, candidates will need to generate a profile code. To do this, you must send your NIN through a registered phone number to a designated shortcode. Therefore, it is important to have a valid and registered phone line for this purpose. Additionally, all future SMS updates from JAMB will be sent to this phone number. Hence, now is an opportune time to get a personal, registered phone line, preferably an MTN line if you don’t have one already.
3. Obtain a free email address:
What if you lose your phone number? Having a backup option is essential to access your profile and receive important messages from JAMB. It is mandatory to provide an email address during your JAMB registration. Creating an email address is simple and free. You can easily set one up at Gmail.com right away.
4. Determine the Course You Want to Study:
Now is the ideal time to make this decision, rather than rushing during the limited registration period. Choosing the course you wish to study requires careful consideration. Take the time to think about your career goals and interests. Select a course that aligns with your passion and academic abilities. It is important to note that for a successful registration and increased chances of admission, you should also have alternative (2nd choice) courses in mind.
5. Familiarize Yourself with the School You Plan to Apply to:
Similar to choosing a course, it is crucial to have prior knowledge about the institution you intend to apply to. Consider whether the school offers the desired course, the admission requirements, tuition fees, and personal preferences such as location. It is important to note that for a successful registration, you should have alternative choices for other institutions such as polytechnics or colleges of education.
6. Be aware of the subject combination for your chosen course:
After selecting your course and institution, it is crucial to familiarize yourself with the subject combination required for admission into that particular course. Many students make the mistake of selecting the wrong subject combinations, which can hinder their admission chances. To avoid any errors, refer to “The JAMB Brochure” to determine the correct subject combination for the various courses before the registration commences. Remember, selecting the wrong combination can jeopardize your chances of securing admission. Be wise and make informed choices!
